Underfloor heating - can you put carpet on top of it?

I have read through the other posts on underfloor heating, but can't seem to find the answer to this!

Am looking at a house that has underfloor heating. The estate agent says it has been finished in such a way that it is suitable for carpets. However, intuitively I have my doubts - as others have pointed out eslewhere, this could be compared with putting carpets over your radiator. (But then again, you don't put tiles over your radiators either....)

Can anyone give me a definitive answer or even point me in the right direction on this?

Thanks in advance.

Tiles will absorb and release heat, carpet with rubber underlay will trap heat. never seen carpet on floor with under floor heating. thats not to say there isn't any.

my parents have both carpet and tiles (kitchen) with underfloor heating.
