Underbody wash necessary for NCT ?

Hi all,

can anyone tell me if it is absolutely necessary to get an underbody wash prior to an NCT. I've read the NCT online info and it does mention it but I have spoken to several (7!) other recent NCT'ers and not one of them got it done - and subsequently passed. I presume the effects of the underbody wash are quickly undone with a couple of days driving ? Therefore would one have to get it done on the way to the NCT centre ? Or would that result in some damp/irate testers ?


The reason that this is on my mind is that I probably won't have time to get it done before my NCT (as I'll be out of the country)... and I'm wondering if I'm setting myself up for a fall...

nope. I've never had it done and I've been through 4 nct's. I drive on filthy roads day in and day out. The kind of filthy that involves cleaning your headlights after each journey. The kind of filthy that involves filling the windscreen washer on a weekly basis.
