Ulster Bank's proposal to deal with offset mortgages

Good idea. I've submitted a SAR now requesting details of the offer and the calculation details for our account, used to determine the amount.
Out of interest, how did you go about doing this? Do those requests need to be in writing or does an email suffice? And does it need to go to Ulster Bank's data protection officer or to the Mortgage team?

Reading this shambles, I would say it's worth putting in a subject access request. It's not the quickest but nothing to lose, and is a pain for them.
I've made good use of SARS requests with them in the past. Even at that, I had to get the Data Protection Commissioners involved to secure a full copy of my data.

I can't believe they haven't given you the information, that's terrible service. They gave it to me over the phone 10 days ago after I kicked up a fuss. The queue message on the phone line says all offset mortgage holders will receive the communication by 1st Dec!

Yip I know, I'd say u got lucky, they are very firm now on no details unfortunately. Is the actual payment in jan dependent on getting them back proof of I.d. as were running out of time. If myself or aniascor dont get letters next Monday or Tuesday by the latest then we will know for sure that we are being bluffed as the post cant b any later than that from dublin. Ive no problem going into arrears over this, bet they will communicate then.

I'm not sure the actual payment is dependent on people sending them proof of ID, they didn't explicitly say that in the letter.

Hi there, I think this is all very valid. Never seen a bank, or any institution in fact offer goodwill payments unless it's to their ultimate benefit. If you know of a group organising legal consultation on this topic please let me know, I have a couple of contacts I'll be reaching out to on this too.

I haven't posted back the copy of the ID yet either.
It says you can do it online by ringing their Telephony team on 0818 210 260 or 00353 1804 7475 from abroad.
I've used that 0818 210 260 number before. I think you get through to Scotland.

I don’t really know what to think at this stage. We had post delivered again today and still no letter. That doesn’t make any sense to me if it went out in the post on Thursday as I was told.

I asked yesterday for my letter to be emailed or to be delivered to my UB mailbox associated with my account, and was told no.

I also think the points above are valid. Using the home mover we doubled the amount of our remaining mortgage last year - and in theory anyone could do the same, providing they are in a position income-wise to qualify for the higher amount. So it really makes the calculation of potential loss meaningless. I suppose they will argue that’s the reason for the doubling of the amount.

I think there is an issue with addresses on the loan versus the postal address. Mine is different. U moved ur address last year. Both of us have been getting normal mortgage letters from ulster but not this one. Something is up and it's not right. People have bring receiving letters since the 28th and still not us. Can't be a postal or printing issue, I just don't believe it anymore. My next mortgage repayment is next Thursday and I'm putting it on hold until I receive my letter. If they send me a letter stating I'm late then il post it back " return to sender", bet ya I get a call back then

Not sure that breaking the terms of your mortgage agreement is the best idea, as frustrating as your situation. Must be.

Remember, the bank won't care a jot.

They really won't. Plus it could work against an individual if there is a dispute later or sale of their loan. Withholding a few hundred to a bank that is given write downs of millions, or has a parent company worth billions is not significant enough for them to notice.

Stay on the right side of this for your own sake.

Yip I know folks, it's just to generate a callback, but yeah ur right il sit it out. Can't go on longer than Jan 10 in any event.
I just don't believe their reasons now and its unsettling to say the least

You know I’ve always thought there was a lot of truth in the quote “Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity.” Or incompetence as the case may be. I think it’s likely we are just unlucky because 4.5k individual letters or sets of letters was a large number to manage, and a few inevitably went astray. I’m not sure how many people are left to manage the offsets but I’m can’t imagine it’s too many. We’re probably dealing with a small overwhelmed team here unfortunately.

Lol that's a great quote, never heard that before. And you know you may well be right. But one thing must be the case and it is this this week will tell the tale either way. Can happen once but if it happens twice then I'm not believing it. I'd wonder how many are in our shoes.

Maybe they have got 98% of the letters right. Having worked in numerous big public and private sector organisations in Ireland and the UK, I will always go straight to the incompetence explanation.

Definitely incompetence of some sort, always the case when dealing with big organisations, be very surprised if there was any ulterior motive to you not getting your letter, just a mess up somewhere!

Defaulting on one payment to whoever mentioned it won't get you a call back either, you'll get letters first and it could be at least 3 missed payments before they will even give it a good look, might get a call then!

Still overwhelmed here anyway, nothing in the post relating to ulster.
