I have involved in a market research forum for Ulster bank yesterday - they had different groups of people. For example my group was all male between certain ages.
They showed us ads from all the different banks etc and asked what we thought of them- who they were aiming for etc. Also what perception we had of different banks including Ulster. I did not know that ulster was now owned by RBS
Good thing though was it meant we could air our grievances about the bank also so the Tracker debacle got more then one mention :p

Ulster has been owned by RBS since around about 2001/02

...and about the time most correspondance with them especially by 'phone became difficult, with no improvement in sight yet. Did that come up in the focus group?

Surprisingly, I rang UB Mortgages yesterday afternoon and was dealt with very promptly by a person there. She was able to answer all of my questions.

I say surprisingly because any other dealings I have had have been average at best...

Seeing as how they don't have a direct number for the mortgage business on the "contact us" webpage puts it in perspective

Ringing a branch is a mare as they put you through a call centre in Belfast or Edinburgh most of the time.

the call centre in belfast is to do with their day to day banking side,
the call centre in dublin is for mortgages only.

Did you ask them if the Dec ECB cut would be put through in time for the 1st of Jan payments?

No, but I am on a tracker so it wasn't really relevant to my conversation. My main beef was that they have never notified me of any interest changes ever since we took out the mortgage and I was querying why...

Are you sure they have the correct correspondance address? Incredibly enough, they don't update our correspondance address to the house that we used the mortgage to buy until we explicitly told them to.

Yes which made the whole thing somewhat stranger...
