Table and six chairs -Laura Ashley Belfast, 1087.50 pounds sterling or €1,238.61 based on current exchange rates.

Same Table and six chairs in Laura Ashley, Dublin - €1,628

Facts can be verified by reference to their catalogue and branch network

Obviously this price difference is wholly jusitifiable and we should be happy to pay it

Do Laura Ashley deliver free from Belfast to Republic ?

Laura Ashley in Blefast refuse to deliver to the south. I wonder why. So say if you live in Strabane well you get your furniture at the cheaper price, but if you live in Lifford which is about 100 yards away you pay €400 more

I reckon the saving is around €140 because you haven't allowed for cost of collection/courier ( say €150 to Dublin ) and you have used the official exchange rate ( a retail bank will probably give you about 0.83gbp to the euro and if you pay by cc you might have a forex fee also ). Still better the €140 in my pocket than theirs. :D

Probably true Demoivre but that doesnt justify the overcharging - I daresay it costs as much in terms of carriage to import stuff to Northern Ireland as it does to the South. I realise there is a difference in the rate of Vat but its only 6% not 33%

Why do you assume they are overcharging in the south?

Maybe they are undercharging in the north.

My point is that they are not overcharging. They are charging the price they think they can get.

You don't have any right to pay a particular figure.

It only becomes too expensive if you pay it.

If you don't buy the product then it doesn't matter to you whether it is 10 times the price elswhere.

a good argument until its applied to medicine for which we also overpay in this state
