I am working offshore in the N.Sea but resident in Ireland.
I pay UK tax/National insurance as my employer is a UK company.
I am also liable for Irish tax as a resident.
Currently I pay UK income tax plus Uk NI (which is a lot higher than PRSI)
and also have to pay an additional amount of tax to the revenue to bring
my income tax up to Irish levels.
The net result is I am paying the equivalent of full Irish tax(Uk + Irish top up)
and UK NI , i.e I pay more tax/NI than if I lived in the UK and I pay more tax/NI
if I was working for an Irish company/resident in Ireland.
Surely this cant be right? or is life just not fair!
