UK Student buy a UK Car

My daughter is at college in the North. She is there Monday to Friday each week during term time.She is considering buying a car and I'm wondering if she can buy a UK car and tax and insure it there. Could she be pursued for VRT. I know the regulations do not allow her to bring it in to the South after 6mths VRT free because she is a student.Your comments are appreciated
 
the rules specify that students cannot claim vrt exemption. I was surprised to learn that myself when a relative looked into it.
 
My initial question wasn't specific enough. She would have hoped to drive a UK car until the end of her studies in the UK.I realise she cannot then import it VRT free. What I am concerned about is whether she can drive the car here at weekends and during holidays ?
