UK State Pension - finding their online system difficult to navigate

I registered with Gateway the other evening no problem and am back in today to try and complete process. The other evening I got the text message number on my phone no problem for logging in but today after numerous attempts I can't get it - any ideas please????

Hi - I'm wondering if anyone has had the same issue I'm having? I have sign in details (Government Gateway user ID and password) but once through that page, I'm asked for an Access code from the Authenticator App. I dont have HMRC set up on my authenticator app.
Would I be better off starting again and setting up a new account? I have been going round in circles trying to change the method of authentication on the site. It is asking me to verify my identity in order to change the method of authentification and requires UK postcode / credit record etc that I dont have.

Has anyone found a way around this?

Just to update - took your advice @DannyBoyD. Started again from scratch and was able to log in using irish passport with no issues. Working on the CF83 from now. Thank again for your help and this super informative post.
