Apologies for ignorance but I tried to put a UK reg car for sale on Buy and Sell.ie but they said I couldn't as it had to have 'duty' paid on it. The woman couldn't explain what that meant! Can anyone enlighten me?
Thanks

If you have been a resident in the U.K and owned the car for 12 months. I think it would be exempt, but you would need to have Irish number plates fitted, before selling. Telephone the V.R.T people and explain the position, they really are very helpful

agree with paying the VRT but I’m surprised that the Buy and Sell said this to you as its not really their concern (unless the law has changed)

Only last week I’ve seen plenty of UK reg cars for sale on my local newspaper
and the sellers are quoting Euro price less VRT which I think is wrong.

The problem is the Dealer can bring a UK car into the country and not register it until he sells it, but the private person has 24hr to register it.
