UK non-resident account

Recently inherited 55K sterling - as an Irish resident can I open a sterling account somewhere as I don't need to access this money in the medium term and current exchange rate is poor.

Don`t anglo have sterling accounts?
I think you have to be resident in the U.K. to open a A/C with a U.K. bank....take a trip to newry

I just rang First Trust Bank in Newry and they said that you would have to make an appointment to see their applications manager about opening one up. The details of what you need to bring when you get a date is the following: Passport/Driving Licence, Proof of Address and a recent AIB bank statement.
