UK inheritance tax Q

Hi all,

I've had a search through previous threads on inheritance tax, but i'm still not 100% confident that I have the answer. My siblings & I have recently inherited an amount of STG£8K each from an aunt who lived in the UK. As far as I understand, UK tax would have been deducted prior to the solictor sending us the cheques. Are there any Irish tax implications for us? One of my brothers is self-employed so I'm not sure if this will make a difference in tax terms?

you can inherit up to about 52K euro from an aunt/uncle without paying CAT - if your aggregate inheritances (from all/any aunts and uncles) is below that amount then there is no liability.

You'd want to confirm that English Capital Acquisitions Tax was deducted on your inheritance.

Then you'd want to have a look at the double taxation treaty, although as mentioned above you probably won't have an Irish tax liability based on the current group thresholds.
