Hi everyone, I've been looking at UCC (Uniform Commercial Code) in the States and keep being told that this governs worldwide, Just looking for clarification on what is governing/setting out the rules and code of practice in Ireland if not the UCC

Any help much appreciated

Tim

Re: What governs Irish/English banks?

UCC is US only and various revisions of it have been adopted and enacted partially or wholly in the US and and its colonies / protectorates, including the Moon and places visited by the StarShip Enterprise (which probably makes it something less than "Universal", but hey, why be modest in the naming of your code, especially as the code doesn't apply to real estate transactions)

Whoever told you it has world-wide applicability is probably American and attended the same geography class as Sarah Palin :)

The Uniform Commercial Code (UCC or the Code), first published in 1952, is one of a number of uniform acts that have been promulgated in conjunction with efforts to harmonize the law of sales and other commercial transactions in all 50 states within the United States of America...

Thank you for clearing that up for me folks, anyone know what governs here??

Re: UCC (Uniform Commercial Code) in the United States:What governs Irish/English ban

The goal of UCC legislation in the United States is to achieve substantial uniformity in commercial legislation and, at the same time, allowed the states needed flexibility to meet local circumstances. The UCC deals primarily with transactions involving personal property (movable property), not real propertyhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Real_property (immovable property).

Im not entirely sure but I imagine the same function is carried out in Europe by the EU, Commission and Directives as legislated in the various national parliaments.

This thing allegedy looks after the economy of the country as a financial hole (sorry I meant whole) - http://www.centralbank.ie/

Here's one that IMHO was spectacularly ineffective in the lead up to the credit-crunch - [broken link removed] - this licences and is supposed to regulate financial institutions

This [broken link removed] looks after consumer interests with the financial institutions and is the final "complaints department".

Is that what you wanted to know? (i'm looking at the original thread title which is narrower than the UCC applicability in the US).
