UA/UB and Child Care

I wondered if anyone can help? If I wanted to go back to work full time (other half already works full time) could I pay my mother to child mind for me? My main query is that she claims either UA or UB (not sure which).
Would she need to declare my paying her? Any advice would be appreciated.

She would probably lose her unemployment benefit, because the condition for receiving same, is to be available for, and genuinely seeking work.If she is at home minding her grandchildren then she is not available for work? plus she is earning money as well by working?

Thanks for that - just looking at my options. Do you have any idea wher she would stand if she came off UA/UB and I paid her? Would I have to get all technical and pay PAYE/PRSI etc - sorry probably sounds a bit thick but this is all new to me.....

If you wanted to be above board, and she was to come off UA, she would be self employed, and be responsible for her own tax/PRSI.

TBH, I'd wait until after the budget to make any decision on this.

Yes, absolutely, however she would no longer be entitled to UA or UB.

Yes, otherwise she would be guilty of benefit fraud and would be fined and expected to pay back everything she was given while she was working.

You could simply pay her cash, but eventually she'll run into trouble if they find she is refusing work or not available for work. Also you can expect Welfare to get a lot more aggressive on fraud over the next few years.
