U.K. to Ireland Phone

Anyone know if a phone bought in the UK and locked to Vodafone UK can be used over here if a Vodafone Ireland sim is put in it.
Thinking of buying a nokia 6230 from ebay and most sellers are uk based.

I doubt it. I reckon you would need to get it unlocked first.
