Are there different types of life assurance, some of which are acceptable for mortgage purposes and other that are not?
Myself and my (Italian) girlfriend have started looking into a mortgage & I believe we need life assurance as part of that.
Aparently in Italy, you can pay into a life assurance scheme and at some stage later on you can cash it in and reclaim your payments.
My understanding of life assurance here is that you don't get anything "back" unless you die?
Would it be possible for us to pay into such an Italian life assurance scheme, use that as assurance for a mortgage and then later on in life reclaim that money
Apologies if this is off-topic for this forum, but it was in the context of mortgages that I came across it.
