Type of wood that bends easily. For outdoor use.

I am putting in place a pea gravel patio area in my garden. Between the gravel and the grass I will have a flower bed. However I would like to put in place a timber section between the pea gravel and soil just to separate them both. As the shape of the patio area has a curve I am looking for the most flexible type of wood that I can get so that I can bend it around the stakes. Anyone know the type of wood that I should use and a supplier of same.

Willow, your only man in these situations. You can use willow uprights and weave the willow thorough them. Sounds lovely, nice and rustic

How tight do you want the curves? It might be tricky to achieve the results you're after without resorting to steam bending or laminating up very thin boards.

Mathepac's willow suggestion is an interesting one. You could get a very nice divider with a low version of something like this.

I did something similar years ago, used smallest size of log roll.

Thanks. I am really only looking for a thin barrier about 6 inches high to stop the pebbles/clay from mixing together over time. Similar to the fantastic new woodland walks around the UCD Campus. See edging in photo of walkway.
