I worked in England in 1976/77 and found my NI number on my P45 and registered on Gateway Portal under that number and requested statement of my National Insurance payments and I received an email giving a reference number and saying they had all the information they needed but have heard nothing yet. I then tried to login to the Gateway Portal & it says my information isn't correct. I then found an old NI card which has a different number on it compared to the P45. Should I try to register again on the Gateway Portal on this number in case I don't hear anything back from the first time.
Thanks in advance
an overview of the process Keep it simple. Print off CF83, fill it in & post by recorded delivery - 20 mins work. You can faff about with the online registration after you've done that.

Are you sure they are two different NI numbers? Temporary numbers were used in the past.
In any event, forget faffing about, get the CF83 form in, include a cover letter if need be.
The number on the Insurance card I received when I was age 16 has 45 as the last 2 numbers and the P45 I received when I was 21 has 78 but I also have a p60 from the same year as the P45 and that is 45. Should I go with the original number on the form and then cover the different numbers in the covering letter?
Thanks DannyBoyD for your help
