the 12 step pprogrammes actually have quite a bad recovery outcome record when independent research is carried out...... The HSE runs stop smoking groups, no idea of outcomes though. Think there's a group in St Vincent;s Elm Park if you're in Dublin.
Maybe CBT would be a better bet? Alan Carr's techniques are also based on similar ideas of thinking logically and clearly about why you do things - particularly those that you want (or at least claim to want) to stop. Like many people I have personal reservations about the 12 step programme and particularly its arguably quasi-theological basis.
