turning off water supply in newish house

I am trying to solve a problem of a leaking HOT tap in the bath. I assume it is is only a washer that needs replacing, which I can do, if I can find out how to turn off the water supply.

I can see two gate valves; one in the hot press coming from the emersion heater and one in the attic underneath/beside the cistern.

Should I turn one or either or both of these off, in order to stop the water? Or do I need to fully drain the cistern?

(Presume after turning gate valves off, I have to let the tap run until all of the water is out of the pipes? How long should the water run for)

House is typical four-bed semi detached in estate built in 1998.

Thank you

If the valve coming from the immersion is on the pipe at the top of the tank then turning only that one off should be enough. Easy enough to be sure; just turn the tap on, close the valve and see if the flow stops.
