Turned down for small AIB loan - why?

Hi there,

my partner recently applied for a small loan with the AIB and was turned down and we have no idea on what basis. He is an AIB customer his whole life and has a current account, SSIA and VISA account with them.

He is in full time employment, earns a decent wage and his depts (which he declared) are made up of 1K on the AIB visa and 2K on another credit card. The loan was for 3K and would be used to clear the card balances and cancel the second card.

Does anyone have any idea why this might be? I would have a similar profile to him and yet BOI have pre-approved me for a loan up to 13K (?)

Any ideas??

It may be because they were not keen to refinance external debt?
 
I was recently turned down for an overdraft of €500 by AIB, i had very little debt with them and was earning over 45k at the time. I was informed that it might have been because i missed one direct debit from my account in the past 3 years .... this was for a very small amount and was due to being on holidays at the time and forgetting to transfer funds form one account to another.
My boyfriend is with BOI and is constantly being offered pre-approved loans - he earns much less than me. I have since decided to leave AIB for good!

This might seem like a daft question but did he tell AIB that the loan was to be used to clear the credit card debt?
 
AIB won't finance credit card debts, either will UB. I was in the same situation, I wanted to take out a loan to clear my CC debts as I will have my CC paid off in 1 year this way, rather than paying the extortinate interest and making little progress into paying off the actual debt. So I tried BOI who never asked why I wanted the money and I was approved and had the moeny within a week.
I am now considering changing from UB to BOI as I have been with UB for years, they sent me a letter pre-approving me for this loan and whenI went to take it up, I was told, sorry not for a credit card, but get this, if I wanted to borrow the money for a holiday or a car, there would be no problem.

The mind boggles!!!
 
That's strange - I got a loan from AIB last year to clear an overdraft (on AIB account), loan with BOI & 3k credit card debt...............
