Trying to update to microsoft office

Wondering if someone can help me. I have a PC at home with word 95 on it. PC at home is used very little so i was just hoping to update windows to office 2003. i have tried to download the disc and keep getting a message ont he screen telling me i need an updated program. anyone any suggestions as to what i should do? Thanks
 
What do you mean "download the disc"? Do you have an original licensed copy of Office 2003 either the full install or upgrade? What specific (verbatim) messages/errors are appearing on screen?
