My brother has recently finished college and is desperately looking for a job. He has been refused any Jobseeker's Allowance due to our parents' income which is fine. However he thinks he could possibly get an internship somewhere on job bridge scheme if he could qualify. I have told him to try locally for an unpaid job but he reckons he would have a much better chance if he could qualify as it would widen his search area considerably.
Is there any way to get him a nil payment or anything? He is willing to work for very little to get some experience but can't support himself away from the parents without something.
If the only reason he has been refused a Jobseekers payment is because of the means test, then he can sign for credits.
Signing for credits attracts eligibility for Jobbridge, along with a 50 Euro weekly payment.
If he moves out of the family home, your parents income will no longer be assessed against him (or indeed if he turns 25), although accommodation costs are then the main problem, as he'll not likely qualify for rent supplement.
