trying to move on

The family home is up for sale the last six months and theres no move on it. It's causing me and my three children alot of stress. My son is to start secondary school in Sep and I don't want to send him only to leave and start all over again in another county. Is there any way I can get rent allowance while the house is for sale? I wish iIcould just walk away and leave it all behind, we need to start living again.
