TRS Refund 2 Single people different refunds

PM1234,

You would need to post your interest payments and TRS amounts in order to see if your getting your full TRS for both persons on the mortgage.

Might be easier to post 2007 figures as it is now complete.

You should receive a statement of account for your mortgage soon and this should give this information.

This topic might have been put to bed, but for the record, it looks to me like jnh is right - the girlfriend has been refunded the right amount and you've been overpaid.

The TRS available to each of you is the lower of 20% of your share of the interest paid, or 20% of the ceiling of €4,000.

The total interest paid was €4,203.11 therefore each of you paid €2,101.56. As this is below the ceiling, you each should have got a refund of 20% of €2,101.56 = €420.31.

Which is what your girlfriend got.

Revenue refunded you 20% of the ceiling, i.e. €800, and this is the incorrect figure - you should check that you didn't inadvertently include the wrong figure yourself on your form.

McGrath,

I can see exactly your point. I don't think they were wrong to refund me 800eu in the first instance as i was the only claimant at that time.

When my gf then applied for her part (months after), they should have seen that i had already been given 20% of the first 4000eu and payed her out 20% of the ballance (203.11eu).

Anyhow, the figures work out the same either way.

I phoned revenue to explain their mistake. Not the simplest of conversations either! They are going to deduct the overpayment from 2008's figures.
