We have discovered that when we sold our house in 2005 - tax relief at source was not applied for on mortgage for new property.
We have requested the forms to claim now and for 05, 06, 07 and 08.
Would anyone be able to give a general indication of what may be due to us ....
Points of note:
New property is main residence.
We are married couple.
We were out of first time buyer status in 2004.
Mortgage Interest in 2005 for new property was EUR9000, EUR18,000 in 06 - am searching for 07 Loan Statement.
Thanks in advance.

Maximum relief for FTB married is interest paid or limit whichever is lower.
2008 - max of €20,000 at 20%
2007 - max of €16,000 at 20%
2006 - max of € 8,000 at 20%.
2005 - max of € 8,000 at 20%.

Sorry just noticed you said you were out of FTB in 2004 so the rates for non-FTB are as follows:-

For non-FTB married is interest paid or limit whichever is lower
2008 - max of € 6,000 at 20% you most likely paid > so its €6,000 at 20%
2007 - max of € 6,000 at 20% you most likely paid > so its €6,000 at 20%
2006 - max of € 5,080 at 20%. you paid €18,000 so its €5,080 at 20%
2005 - max of € 5,080 at 20%. you paid € 9,000 so its €5,080 at 20%

Still looking at over €4,000 TRS refund claim though. Enough for a nice holiday or, in current climate, a 2007 BMW

Appreciate that Graham 07 - So based on figures above we are due EUR4440?

I'd let Revenue be the ultimate confirmer of that but assuming nothing else pops up it should be somewhere around there. Don't spend it in advance tho . Get the claims off fast. Remember also, the refund goes to the bank account from which you were paying the mortgage. So you need to supply Revenue with the information needed to ensure it gets to right place.
