Hi,

can anyone help with my query? I live in Donegal but my mortgage is in sterling with Ulster Bank in the North. Can I claim TRS? There is nothing sinister it is just easier for me this way with working in the North and travelling alot, it saves me having to change money over each month from my Northern account and lodging it in my Southern account.

Thank you

I believe that you can but I'm not sure about you getting it at source with the lender. Why not just file a claim with all the relevant details? If there's a problem with the lender being in NI/UK then Revenue will presumably tell you.

I get paid in sterling and taxed in the UK, but this should be irrelevant under the double taxation agreement that the ROI has with the UK. I got TRS for my previous mortgage which was in Euro's.

I thought that the double taxation agreements meant that you wouldn't be taxed twice in two jurisdictions on the same income. I didn't know they extended to claiming tax relief, but I'm not a tax professional.

I think you'd have to contact Revenue's TRS section on 1890 46 36 26 or perhaps an accountant who specialises in cross-border taxes.
