Our mortgage began in Nov 2003 and I mistakenly thought relief would run until Oct 2010.
Revenue clarified that the year of assessment runs from Jan to Dec with 2003 being year 1 and 2009 year 7, therefore relief ended Dec 2009.
However we got relief until Sep 2010 - Revenue said this was a mistake.
We didn't apply for TRS til mid 2004 and the relief we initially received was only in respect of that tax year - there was no mention of 'retrospective' relief for the €300 interest we paid on two mortgage repayments in Nov and Dec 2003.
So is 2004 year 1 of our mortgage meaning we are eligible for the extension?
Or does (mistakenly?) being in receipt of relief in 2010 entitle us to the extension.
If 2003 was year 1 of our mortgage then why didn't we get a letter in Dec 2009 stating TRS had ended.
Instead our letter told us our relief was continuing but at a reduced amount - it was a much bigger drop than in previous years and when I queried it with our mortgae provider thay just cited 'budget changes'.
I'm confused and maybe someone here can enlighten/educate me.
Thanks for your help.
Jo
P.S. Our mortgage was stage payments drawn down in 4 stages - last stage Nov 2004 doesn't equal relief til Sep 2010.
