My old reliable Triton T90i shower has suddenly lost power and the motor is making a weird sound ( like skipping a beat ever second beat ) . Water flow still appears to be ok. I'm afraid to use the unit any further just in case I cause it to fail permanently.

When I open it after isolating the electricity, I saw a lot of black carbon layered on wires etc. I cleared this all up but I suspect that the brushes might be naff but can anyone tell me, if the brushes are replaced, will there be a much life left in the the motor or should I be considering buying a new motor ?

Indeed, should I be considering cutting my losses and getting a plumber to replace the whole unit given it's age?

Also, where can I get instructions on how to take the motor out if that is what is needed?

Many thanks

If you run the search option in this forum you should find many previous threads on problems with the Triton T90. Some discuss replacing the brushes.

I actually had a look at other posts before I put in the question but there were no other posts with symptons exactly matching my problem with my shower .

Before I go to the expense of brush or motor replacement, I really just need to be sure that just replacing the brushes will cure the problem.

Replacing the brushes may get it working and it might be ok. However it depends on the condition of the commutator (where the brushes contact the motor) and the general condition of the bearings etc.

Thanks John Martin

Any idea as to what is causing the skipped beat of the motor or is this just incidental?

if it comes to the worst and its knackered i think woodies has the T90 on special offer at the moment.
