Travertine Floor Tiles: Good/Bad?

Hi,
I was thinking of getting Travertine Floor tiles for my kitchen.
Somebody told me that this style gets dirty easily and can't be easily cleaned as dirt gets into the small holes and becomes compounded and hardens.

Is this true?
What are your experiences with this type of tile?
Would you recommend them for kitchen floors?

I had searched the forum for posts on Travertine but found nothing. I must have spelt it wrong in the search so sorry for that.

And Suellen Southfork belongs to the Ewings, we'll do what we like!
