Hello,
Planning to travel to Australia in Oct for 16 days with 4 year old kid.
Any suggestions on TO DO's List. Went thru other threads in AAM, did not find any thread that mentions kids & travel to Oz.
Please help..!

Might be a bit young but there are 3/4 theme parks on the coast near Surfers Paradise. Great way to spend a day out

Australia Zoo - Steve Irwins place on the Sunshine coast north of Brisbane - is good too. You can walk through the kangaroo section & pat them, feed elephants, pet koalas & see a crocodile show among other things.

There's a place called Tin Can Bay further up the coast where you can get in the water & feed a couple of dolphins that come in every morning.

Which area are you visiting ?

took our 2 yr old and 4yr old about 7 years ago and they had a blast.. just seeing the place,on the beach, zoo in sydney, trips on a boat around the harbour, flying on the plane.sydney opera house.driving from brisbane to sydney, forests,if u are driving u may be lucky to see a kangaroo etc on the roadyou name it and they enjoyed it.
just make sure they get plenty of sleep and take them weverywhere the ozzie cater for kids in a big way, every beach almost has a play area and a bar bq area..one big adventure

If going to W.A. visit Rottnest Island. A small island about 25 mins by ferry from Freemantle (nr. Perth). Very few cars if any (might have changed) and bicycles are main form of transport. Will have to get off bikes to avoid quokkas (like small kangaroos) who are out on the road and are well used to people stopping to watch them. You can visit Namburg National Park and see the Pinnacles (where Billy Connolly ran around naked). You can go into the water in Monkey Mia to feed the bottle nosed dolphins. Take in Broome and its great beaches and a helicopter ride over the Bungle Bungles and finish in Darwin. So much to do.........lucky you.

Thanks for all the replies. Will be landing in Sydney airport in Oct, after that need to plan out the next 16 days. This is the first major trip with my kid so a bit nervous.

you should be fine, the ozzies are very helpful with the kids and the perk is you get to get on the planes first coz u have kids

Jeeze, don't think I would recommend driving Perth, Monkey Mia, Broome and onto Darwin with 4 year old in the back.
Perth to Monkey Mia itself is 800 odd kms.
Perth to Broome is nearly 2,400 kms.
Perth to Darwin is 4,100 kms.

And a lot of those roads are not that interesting, just the same scenery.
You would need a lot of DVDs for the young fella.

Can you imagine "are we there yet, are we there yet" every half an hour?
You would go bloody nuts.

We travelled to Oz with 2 and 3 year old. Spent year and half travelling. On the east coast we travelled in micro-home. Great as meant kids slept in same bed each night. Parked at Big 4 campsites great facilities for kids...pools, jumping pillows etc. We found that we would travel and see sights in morning then park up after 3. Then kids would use camp facilities meet other kids and all was hunky dory. It allowed us to see all the sights and they were also happy as met other children. My kids loved the monorail in Sydney best and boat trips around Whitsundays. If you decide to hire car you could also stay at Big 4 campsites in their chalets...diff types for diff budgets. If you want anymore info pm me.
