Travel Hub refund

Hi,
I had an annual bus ticket purchased by my employer as part of a salary sacrifice arrangement via Travel Hub, which expired 1st Dec.
I emailed my HR dept in Oct to advise that I wouldn't require another annual ticket. However my HR dept forgot to cancel, so on Dec 15th when I was paid...approx €90 was deducted from my salary for the ticket...
HR have now approved a refund for me but advised that it totals approx €44 as PRSI etc was charged. I don't understand why I'm not getting the full refund, nor their explanation.
Can anybody advise?

I assume €90 was deducted from your gross pay. When this is refunded back to your wages the normal deductions for tax, PRSI, USC etc have to be made, leaving you with €44 in net pay.
