Hi there,

Can any of you recommend a site where I can purchase travel books for a particular region in France, all I can see in the shops are general books with about 10 pages dedicated to the area I'm visiting.

Thanks.

Re: Travel Books

If you can read French I would recommend any of the books in the Petite Futé www.petitfute.com/ or Guide du Routard www.routard.com/ series. These specialise on accommodation, bars, restaurants, shopping, etc. as well as touristy things to do or see. If your French is basic you might stick to the Petite Futé guides as the Routard series use a slangy jokey sort of French. You can pick these up anywhere in France or you can buy them from their web sites. Also the Michelin guides, available in Engish, are good on background, places to visit, etc. You can buy the Michelin guides (green guiides) in Hodges Figgis, Waterstones or from the AA. As there is a delivery charge of about 5 euro per book to buy it over the internet from France it might be better to plan things out using either the web sites or the Michelin guides and then pick up the local guides when you get there. The Michelin web site also has an excellent route planner. Any locality worth visiting in France will have its own tourism web site. These are usually multilingual so just google the towns, regions you are thinking of visiting. If you are thinking of doing any hiking, walking when you are there check out the guides of the FFRP
