Transferring monies from UK bank account

Hi there

I moved back from the UK relatively recently and have approximately 10k (from after-tax income) in my HSBC account.

I would, over the next 6 months, like to transfer the monies back. My Irish current account is with PTSB.

As I have online banking, it seems that the simplest thing is to transfer between accounts. But, with the not insignificant sum of 10k, I would like to avoid excessive charges or a poor exchange rate.

Should I use a specialist currency broker or simply transfer between accounts and be done with it?

Thanks

In my experience charges at UK banks are extremely high (the price of free banking...). Not only that but their FX rates will be anything but competitive.

I use a National Irish/Northern Bank set-up to transfer my brass which avoids bank charges.

You could also look at caxtonfx .com, or similar.
