Transferring money home from UK

Hi,

I live in England and have some modest savings in a Uk bank account here but would like to put it in my savings account with Rabodirect at home in Ireland.

What would be the cheapest way to transfer it regarding currency exchange? Would I be best to just transfer it through my bank (HSBC) or take it out, change it to euro and lodge via Ireland?

Basically, what would be the cheapest way to get my money into my Irish account?
