Transfer of UK JSA to ROI?

My boyfriend is English and currently claiming Job Seekers Allowance in the UK. He would like to move to Ireland in the near future (to that end he has already applied for and received a PPS number). I am in full time employment and earn a decent salary.

My questions are, is he entitled to claim JSA from the Irish social welfare system? Or does the UK simply transfer his payments to Ireland? Will he be means tested based on my earnings?

Ideally, he hopes to get work here as soon as possible, but if that doesn't happen, it would be interesting to know what, if anything, he would be entitled to here.

If anyone has any light they can shed on this, I'd be grateful.

If his UK payment is means-tested, then it probably can't be transferred. Only jobseeker's benefit (based on PRSI contributions or the equivalent) can be transferred to another EU country.

If he can't transfer his payments, he can make an application for Jobseeker's allowance in Ireland. If he moves in with you, he will be means-tested on your earnings so may not have an entitlement.
