Transfer of Ryder Cup Tickets

I have acquired 2 Ryder Cup tickets for each of the 1st two days & now find that my wife who had been nominated as a ticket holder will not be able to attend. I intend to sell her tickets (face value of course) to two friends. The Ryder Cup people have agreed to this but only if I notify them well in advance & provide their contact details including passport details, D.O.B.'s etc. They will then re-issue them. Whilst I appreciate that they would want to block "blackmarketeering" I wonder can they really refuse admission on the day to ticketholders who turn up without passports/I.D.
Anybody got a view on this?
 
Any idea what terms & conditions were specified at the time of the original purchase? To me, this is a great idea - I'd love to see more sports & music events doing the same.

Or better still, for gigs, why don't they get cinema-style ticket printing machines in the venues so you only get to print your ticket when you arrive on this night with the credit card used for purchase.

of course they can, i've gone to glastonbury a couple of time where if you didn't have photo ID (driving license or passport) to match the name on the ticket there was no entry what so ever.

however, when they email us to check the names and addresses, i'm sure they will also inform us on whether you need a matching ID or not!
 
Spoke to a guy who's a golf nut and has been to the last 3 Ryder Cups. The sames terms were in place at the time but the tickets were never checked against passports etc. The security check was rigorous but that was it.

That is what I suspected. It would be a nightmare scenario if only those individuals who bought tickets over a year before were the only ones who could turn up at the gate. I suspect that the passport thing is to discourage ticket touts.
 
They do the same for Wimbledon - states on tickets that they are non-transferable, but I've never seen them check at the gates.
