my late mother left me and my sister her house between us.my sister is now buying my half.she has got her morgage last july.how much longer will this transfer take or how long is normal for a name transfer on deeds.

You should have a solicitor acting for you and you should ask them the question. Without knowing the precise details and what is possibly holding things up, its not really possible to give anything other than a guesstimate. If Probate has issued, then this should have happened once she organised her mortgage. Have you asked your sister what the delay is?

I can totally appreciate where you're coming from as I am the same position as you. My brother is buying me out of our house. He applied for the mortgage and got approval to do so in July and it's still on going.
I went sale agreed on an another house on the premise that this would be resolved by the very latest Septemeber.
I spoke to the solicitor on behalf of my brother and I and he basically said it's easier to complete the sale of 5 houses that to do a transfer of name on the deeds. (Not very encouraging I know). You're dependent on too many departments in banks, who from our experience do not communicate.
To give you an example:
Our solicitor requested the deeds from the legal department at the bank. He got these 3 weeks ago. I signed serveral forms to discharge myself from the mortgage and the deeds. What he needs is a letter of consent from the mortgage department to change the deeds and then send them back to the banks legal department.
I was told 2 weeks ago I would have the letter did I get it, NO!!
Anyway, I was assured it would be faxed to him and a copy to me on Thursday, it wasn't. I sent three emails to the guy who had originally promised me this on thursday and he didn't reply.
He emailed my brother yesterday, not me, saying he left early and forgot.
Then he said that the girl who was supposed to send the letter was off sick.. so it's now TUesday and still no letter. After that, it has to go through more legal procedure.
I have had to go back to the estate agent and request some leeway because we don't want to sign contracts and can't give a closing date until this is resolved. Nobody can tell me when to expect completion on it.

It seems to be very messy and complicated, but it's complicated by the lack of communication that exists. You'll hear all the excuses, but a simple thing like I explained has cost nearly a week, so it might explain where all the other wasted time has gone.
I would get on to your solicitor. They are acting on your behalf and get them to put the pressure on.
Good luck, i hope it works out for you!

thanks all it just seems that everything in ireland takes forever x

i couldn't agree more. Honestly some people are just so incompetent and nobody cares anymore for customer service / satisfaction. They are all going around blaming each other and saying how hard this is and how hard that is.
You would think with the slow down in the market that you would get extra special attention for the fact that you are actually giving them new business!?
Anyway, we have been given an ultimatum by the vendor's solicitors to say that return signed contracts by 4pm on October 30th and close by November 5th.
Does this seem like a reasonable target or am I likely to be running around chasing these guys at the 11th hour?
The solicitor acting on the discharge of me from the mortgage has the deeds and the letter from PTSB consenting to the removal of my name from the mortgage. He now has to act on that. Is this something that should be sorted out in the immediate future, or is it possible for this to go on for another 3-4 weeks?
