Transfer between personal pensions

THis may be a silly question, but can anyone tell me, if somone has an old personal pension with quite high challenges compared to those available today, is it possible to tranfer it to another pension provider, with a lower charging structure? I presume there would be charges for so but the benefits night outweigh this.
 
As far as I know this should be possible. At least that is what I was told when I inquired about transferring an old Equitable Life WP and Unit Linked personal pension plan to another provider.
 
Thanks clubman. Given the number of responses, it must not be as clear cut as I had hoped!
 
You can - but there may be exit penalties depending on how your personal pension was set-up!
