Trainee accountant position

Hello Members,

I am a part qualified ACCA, plus CAT too, got MCSE certification plus one year irish construction company accounts payabe experience, since January I have been applying to many jobs for trainee accountant, but unfortunately no positive responses.

Is there something I am doing wrong,

any clues or idea's where should I look for, apart from IRISHJOBS.IE and JOBS.IE

Professional people also have checked my CV and they don't seem to find any mistakes.

After applying to 200+ jobs, What I have learned in Ireland is that most of the jobs online are bogus and illegitimate and only for recruiters to attract more people towards them, ( Don't know if thats true )

Any kind of Ideas and focal points where I should focus are welcomed

I was a trainee once on £6,000 pa, now am FCCA. During the boom, generally agencies were desperate for candidates to fill roles. Since 2008 I stopped applying through agencies, as it was just a waste of time. I have only applied directly to employers since then and always got some interviews. You need to do a different covering letter and tailor each CV for each different position. Match the skills/experience you have with what they are looking for and make it easy for the person reading your CV and covering letter to see this quickly and clearly. Email the 3 pages together, one page letter and 2 page CV. Use your accamail as your email address, it looks better than a gmail or yahoo one. If you use facebook, don't come across on it as a waster or whatever as HR do check these kind of things.

I wouldn't say it would be a major thing unless someone didn't like the sort of stuff you get up on it. Keep your account, just give your friends access to detailed stuff. You don't want everyone and anyone reading about how you got hammered in D2 one nite, woke up in a strange place, had to go to a clinic on the monday ! That is just an extreme example, by the way, no offence intended.

I don't mean to come across as pedantic or anything here, but you should ensure that the standard of English on your CV/ cover letter is better than the above. Errors like that will see an application go straight in the bin.

As with Leo's post above, no offence, but your post is littered with grammatical and punctuation errors. Any employer or agency would pick up on that in two seconds.

The OP has aready stated that professional people have checked his CV.

Try sending your CV and a good cover letter directly to employers, it often yields a far better response. Some employers keep it on file then call people for an interview if a vacancy arises.

It may seem petty to you, but communication skills are highly prized by most employers. I'm not trying to insult you; merely point out where improvement may be required. I'll retire from this thread now, as I've made my point. Apologies for any offence caused.

You might feel like it's 'pinching', what ever that means, but I am involved in recruitment. Anything like what you have written so far would result in your CV going straight in the bin.

If you're not prepared to accept what was intended as constructive criticism, then perhaps AAM, or indeed any online forum isn't for you.
