Hi,

I have just completed a part time post grad diploma in accountancy - basically i did it to give me a better understanding of the industry as i have been thinking of a career move for a number of years.

I previously worked in London in the IT industry and ideally thats where i would like to do my apprenticeship. I would hope to work with one of the Big 4 and do the ACA exams.

Basically my questions are:
1. How different is the ACA scheme over in the UK to Ireland?
2. What salary could i expect to earn?

Thanks for any help,
WB

Pretty much the same I would have thought, as there is mutual recognition between both bodies.

Money in London on a training contract is better in London than here. When I started here it was €20k starting salary whereas in London it was Stg£30!

In terms of experience/exams etc as far as I know there is no difference (apart obviously from having to do UK company law rather than Irish!)

And UK, rather than Irish Tax

That said, if you get into one of the Big4, it should be easy to transfer back to their Irish office after qualification

Winnie,

Thanks for the reply - when i worked previously in London I was only aware that trainee accountants in the investment banks earned that kind of money.

Has anyone on this site trained in the UK as an ACA accountant with one of the Big 4?

Cheers,
WB

I got offer from big4 London and Dublin. Offer £23k and €21K. Easier to get into big4 in Ire. In Ire u get paid for overtime - cash it or take extra holidays
