Hi just a query on trading in with a dealer, I am currently trading my 2009 transit for a 142 new shape transit, what way should the Vat work should I charge the dealer vat on mine and pay the vat on the new van or do I just give the trade in vehicle inclusive of vat as a deposit. Also regarding the vat should I finance the whole asking price of the newer van or pay the vat and claim it back, I am Vat reg.

If you are financing you will be relying on finance house contract to sort.

eg . Dealer will invoice as follows

One Ford Transit 142 Dl 1234 e 30,000
Vat 235 e 6,900
.................................................................

Full price e 36,900

Less trade in 2009 Transit. 6,000
Vat 1380 e 7,380
...................................................................
Balance due e 29520.
......................................................................

Ends up you end up reclaiming Net Vat ie 6,900 less 1380.

Id look for more for 09 transit or greater discount on 142.....reviews on new shape not great if u need the space that was in old shapes....

Cheers guy, the shape is not a problem its for small tools etc, would I be made to finance the vat or should I use my own funds..
