Tractor for day to day transport needs

The April fool budget is bound to hammer motorists.
With this in mind, I'm seriously considering getting a tractor as my primary means of transport. I do not have a farm, or any agricultural use for it.

Advantages that I can see are:
- Apparently no need for NCT. It seems to be the case that if it starts, then you can drive it on public roads.
- Cheap fuel. I should be entitled to agricultural diesel
- Little VRT. Is it €50 or something to import a tractor?
- No need to worry about pot holes any more.

Disadvantages
- They are slow. However, I might be able to soup it up a bit. Add smaller wheels and reduce the weight.

Is this plan feasible? - is there anything I'm missing?

Why do you think you would be entitled to use agricultural diesel?

Your situation would be no different if you had a diesel car.

if you get a really big coffee can exhaust it will go very very fast so be careful. Go faster stripes should add a minimum of 30bhp.

and tinted windows will just look COOL.

Why not get a JCB Fasttrack? They can do around 40MPH, perfect if you are commuting into Dublin city centre, if anything its too fast :p

Its an agricultural vehicle, of course you would fill it with agri diesel. Why wouldnt you?

Using Agri diesel isn't so simple, you will need to fill up at home or in the country. Not generally available in urban filling stations.
Security would also be a consideration. You can start an old tractor with a screw driver.....!
Parking in a multi story... now that would be interesting.

Might need to re-think this one Leghorn..

Nothing to stop you using a tractor as a commuter vehicle. You can use green diesel too.

Yes...adequate protection from the elements and dignity
I would drive my tractor with great pride, knowing that I've stopped the greedy TDs getting more of my hard earned wages, which they recklessly spend on their exuberant lifestyles.

Why not get a JCB Fasttrack?
Like this?

Looks pretty good to me! Looks pretty expensive too.

How hard can tractors be to drive anyway? - I've driven a transit van before.

You can use it in your garden. :)

I used to commute to school in a tractor when I was 16. Those were the days. :)

I think that this [broken link removed] on carzone would be more suitable, easier to park, easy to service, carbon neutral:

Don't be mad. Go for one of these...no tax, no problem with parking..loads of benifits.
You'd look cool too.

So the Revenue can't / won't verify that the owner is a farmer / agri contractor ... you're 'aving a Turkish mate.

Well I have never seen a tractor pulled up on the road with the owner being questioned on it's primary use. Surely they haven't the resources to be following up small fry like that!

Get real! How many people in this country do you think are using a tractor as their private vehicle and who is not a farmer / contractor??

Revenue probably have better things to be at.
