Hi, I am pretty hopeless at plumbing and DIY but am hoping to avoid having to fork out to fix this. Basically the cistern is re-filling only as a trickle. I looked in and when i expected to see old style ball cock that wasnt working, I instead found an unfamiliar system that MEANS NOTHING TO ME. ANYONE GOT AN IDEAS WHERE TO EVEN START? ANY HELP APPRECIATED.

Ignore all the complicated plastic bits.

Find the pipe that feeds the water up into the cistern.
Turn off the water for this pipe... hopefully there is a lever/tap on it, if not turn off the water at the usual place.
After this pipe enters the cistern it will join up with the cistern internals.

There should be some kind of nut/joining mechanism... and inside this there is probably a gauze filter.

It is most likely that something has blocked this.

You might need a vice grips to hold the pipe in place while you open up this joint etc etc. Try not to force and break anything.

thanks but ...

fraggle, thanks for the advice which i have just read. unfortunately i had already started playing with some of the complicated bits. fortunately i seem to be making some progress - while also creating new probs. flushing mechanism seems to be working fine and i cleaned all that out. then by taking the fill mechanism apart and putting it back together, a simple adjustment to one of the connections where water was trickling seems to have created really good water flow to refill the cistern. however, the cistern is not only filling quickly, but it now isnt stopping filling and just reaching the top of the flushing mechanism and overflowing into the toilet from the top of that. there isnt a traditional ballcock that can be set to top the cistern filling so not sure where to turn next. any ideas?

sorry ... just googled and discovered that the system i have is concentric float valve. any help on how to set the overflow ...??? thanks a million

Sorry for the threadjack cossieh but I have a similar problem with the same type of toilet.

Water is trickling through into the bowl constantly. I turned off the water and this resulted in the cistern emptying completely. Any ideas?

I have Remo units... and had both problems... I had to go back to supplier and get new internals.

The gauze filter above was blocking on one occasion... also had the trickle as the concentric float mechanism never re-seated properly

so if unit is not that old, I would turn off water, remove internals and go cap-in-hand to the supplier and explain the issue and they migth give you replacement which you re-fit back in...hope that helps

If you can remove the "button plate" take off and put back on the two plastic pipes. If you can't get at them on the "button plate" do this in the cistern.

In the cistern, spray A LITTLE WD40 around the top edges of the tube device that you will see in the middle of the cistern and move it up and down with your hand. It seems very likely when you say it is now overflowing that it is sticking.
