To Girona but not for Barcelona.

We were thinking of flying to Girona but not going to Barcelona nor staying in Girona, rather somewhere along the coast. We would need easy public transport to get to our destination and be able to travel along the coast from there and possibly to France. Any recommendations?

Collioure, France, about 45 mins by car is a lovely small town by the coast. The beach there isn't great but you could travel a few miles north to Racou, Argeles sur mer for your beach needs. Argeles is a typical tourist resort, Racou is much quieter and in my opinion nicer. If you do go to Racou or Argeles, be careful as the water floor drops very suddenly after a few feet in, if you have young kids it can be quite dangerous.
Don't know what public transport from the airport is as we've always hired a car from there but if you 'google' the airport you might get an adea.

we went from girona to tossa de mar a nice beach town with a lively resort but very spanish we then travelled to la franc which was a small but nice place great public transport from girona so you should be able to choose france or spain. I thought girona was worth a night or two nice tapas bars and restaurants. enjoy

What about Figueres? Approx 50km from Girona and easy to cross the border into France?

If you don't want to spend a lot of time there its worth going even for one day to see the Dali museum although its recommended to spend some time travelling around the area.

You should try to go to Cadeques which is by far the nicest place on the Costa Brava. The only problem is that you'd probably need to rent a car - the roads are quite treacherous but that keeps all the tourists away! Don't go to Roses - concrete jungle full of tourists. Cadeques is quite near Perpignon if you wanted to go there for a few days. Figueres is well worth a day trip but it's not on the coast.
