Timing of Med1 vs Annual Tax return

Hi

For Tax year 2008, I will have a tax liability of c500 euro on my Form 12 tax return - however I should be due back approx 800 euro based on the content of my Med1 for valid medical expenses during the year (@40% relief)

Ideally I want to have the Med 1 processed and the money in the bank before I have to pay my tax liability. Are these 2 processed separately (i.e. can I submit my Med 1 first and wait until its processed before I go about submitting my Form 12)? How long does it normally take for the tax office to process the Med 1?

TIA

Submit your Med 1 with form 12 and medical expenses will be set against your liability @ 41%

Thanks, but is it possible to submit the Med 1 first and have it processed before submitting Form 12?

No. Revenue will not give you a refund for your medical exps while you have an outstanding tax liability

From revenues perspective they don't know that I have an outstanding liability. I was claiming an old tax credit that i was no longer entitled to, which will be rectified in my Form 12.

So back to my original query, will they process the med 1?

No. Was looking at this myself the other day online. They will not process anything until the form 12 has been submitted. When I went online it showed that there was a form 12 outstanding and that nothing could be processed until that was returned.
