Time between deposit and contracts

I paid my booking deposit almost a month ago on a secondhand house and have yet to receive the contracts. I am told they are on the way, but just wondering what is the usual timeframe between paying a deposit and being issued with the contracts? Thanks in advance

It really depends on the circumstances. If the sellers had informed their solicitor before hand, they could have paperwork ready to issue very quickly. If not, if the sellers had a mortgage, their solicitor now has to obtain the title documetns from their bank, which could well take a few weeks, then examine them, if there had been any planning issue since they purchased, that would now have to be dealt with, contracts would have to be drawn up etc. So there is no usual time frame, it really depends on the sellers circumstances and how much they had ready prior to the sale.

Finger in the air guess, I'm afraid clipper. We have gone sale agreed on our house about 4/5 weeks ago. We had anticipated selling this year, so we contacted our solicitor in late December asking them to organise the transfer of the title deeds. Through no fault of our own, the contracts only went to the purchasers last week. There was a **** up at the bank and they couldn't find the deeds although they continually said they had sent them to our solicitor.

But to answer your question, it could only take 2/3 weeks.

Alternatively you could be lining up to be Gazumped.

As one who has been through it - don't trust to fate is my advice - push the EA hard to put a SOLD sign on the house.
Sale Agreed sign = invitation to gazumpers.
