Our tiler is starting soon & wants me to buy the adhesive & grout.
We are laying marble & porcelin tiles. Is there much savings to be made buying these in hardware shops as opposed to the Tile shop?

There are huge savings to be made buying these in builder's merchants or the DIY sheds.

We found (too late) that the tile shop was charging us €50 per bag for the adhesive, while the tiler charged us €25 per bag for extra he needed of the same stuff. (And when you are laying 100m2 of tiles, that is a difference of about €750)

Another thing, check if he is leveling the floor. That's one expence we hadn't counted on. at €40 per bag to buy and level, it works out VERY expensive if the floor isn't level to begin with.

You/tiler should use inexpensive self levelling compound for this rather than pricey adhesive.

folks just for the record - I saved €400 just on grout/adhesive by shopping around. thanks for the advice.
