Tile inside front door?

We are getting laminate flooring and are concerned about the area inside the front door getting water damage from buggys, wet shoes etc coming in. Would it look okay to tile the first few feet of the hallway and any opinions on what colours would look best? Thanks.

Hi Toby,

The idea of a few feet of tiling IMHO sounds strange but suppose would have to see it to understand exactly how it would work. Have you had a read of this previous thread which might be relevant Mat well in floor?

It is an expensive option - about €2k.
However, maybe Toby has loads of money, and didn't consider a porch.

You can get waterproof or at least water resistant laminate flooring. May cost a little more than the standard, but sounds like the ideal solution here.

Why don't you try blending the outdoors with the indoors in this area. A feature of old irish houses. Put flag stones or other coarse stone tiles here.

why dont you just tile your hallway and kitchen ? I've seen this done in a few new houses now and I think it look very nice wish I thought of it before putting down my wood flooring in the hallway and livingroom.

Thanks, porch not an option as we've already extended out. Not mad about idea of tiling the whole hall as it seems a bit cold. Will think about it though. The front door will open up to a decent sized space before it meets the stairs so we have some space to play with.
