ticket prices to America

Whats going on with the price of flights to America.

checked up to go the first week in august then the last week in august and just to see I checked the price for the last week in October. All the tickets are over €1,000. Last year I went at end of oct for about 400-450. Whats the hell is going on in this world.
 

Not sure where you are sourcing your prices...picked at random, flights from Shannon to New York, out 25/10 back 29/10. Available for 535USD, including taxes,on travelocity.com
 
Heading to the US next week in work - flights were coming in at around €3K (!) initially. Checked a few days later and they were down to €1K. Perhaps there is simply a lot of volatility with ticket prices?
