Am thinking of buying audi up north possibly through a dealer. I have a D reg car - Does anyone know if NI dealers would take a southern reg as a trade in - Thanks

Than can do. Expect to get a lowish value for it if you do.

They will as they can easily get it re-registered, but as the previous poster says, you'll get nowhere near its RoI value so you'd probably be better trying to sell privately.

If you think about it, your car might be worth €10000, but the same car could be bought in NI for maybe £5500-£6000, so the dealer will only offer you maybe €6000 worth.

Yes you will want to sell that car privatley.

But in the current market climate you'll be waiting to do that.

Then at the other end of the deal when you want to trade the new Northern Audi in again you'll probably find yourself stuck with it.

Unless of course you can sell privatley.

Can anyone tell me Irelands no 1 PRIVATE SALES WEBSITE?

Please don't say Carzone, I tried selling my car there, it was listed for 2 YEARS without a phone call

In fairness if you didn't get a call in 2 years it's your fault or it's a very specialised motor!
I've sold cars on carzone with out any hassle, be prepared to drop the price and it will go. Cars sell @ market value, not what you THINK it's worth.

To the OP - ask for a trade in value off the NI delaer, if it's crap add 1 or 2 grand on (or relative to value of car) and sell it privatley. At that price it should go.

So you don't know of a private sales website then?

Depends on the car - Try the buy and sell - regional papers can be great also as not everyone has internet or buys national papers.

Have sold two cars over last couple of months on carzone.ie

Mind you had loads of hassle from UK scam companies wanting a fee to sell to the hundreds of buyers they had lined up. I'd say I had at least 20 to 25 phone calls from various companies on the same theme.

Why restrict your sale to just a website. Not everyone uses the internet.

best site at the moment for selling a car is donedeal.ie and the cheapest, carzone just changed their site and put ads up by 10 euro. i had a 530d there for 8 months no call dropped it by 1500 and put it on donedeal and sold it in 3 weeks and only cost 3 euro!

I bought a car up North recently privately. Is 'Frank Zappa' saying that i will be be stuck with it unless i sell private . Can i not trade in to a car dealership here ? Do main dealers not accept Northern cars as trade in ?

Not sure if it's what he's saying, but it's not true (not in general that is).

Typically, UK cars have a much better documented and traceable history then those here thanks to the likes of HPI.
